Ideally, it's good to have a "stream starting soon" overlay of some kind so you can make yourself comfortable and ready for streaming, but I'm more inclined to doing a countdown as a "starting soon" overlay is kinda vague, and boring to look at if you have only an animated patterned overlay or solid color, since viewers have no idea when the stream's going to start (unless if it's timed based on when the music ends).ĭefinitely keep the 3-5 minute buffer for the overlay as it gets the notifications, through twitch or twitter and discord if you have, to viewers while considering the additional delay, and it allows for busy viewers to see the notifications a few minutes late and not miss any major content on stream. I've always been a fan at making a countdown start screen, above existing gameplay footage or cinematics on games that I like playing, whenever I start my streams, and a lot of my viewers enjoy listening to the calm music in the background while seeing the countdown tick to 0.
