![]() Arvio? Especially from the outside? Here's some guy with no common sense and a lot of self-motivation pulling the kind of shit he would've seen a million times before, all in the name of self-enrichment, AND he's trying really hard to be friends with him for some reason. Fang can have his justifications all figured out for his ethically dubious business practices because he'll always have "the greater good" to back him up. It would ALSO give an extra dimension to his antagonistic feelings towards Arvio, who's a lot more brazen about being a self-concerned conman. ![]() And no need to feel guilty about the underhandedness of it if you don't let anyone in because if you let someone in they'll either take advantage of you first or fucking die on you or something and then you're left all alone anyway so fuck it, if I can't form meaningful relationships with people, the least they can do is be my test subjects, it's all above board.probably. From the way he talks about "don't lie", "no fighting", and even X's reminder of (presumably) something his mom would say, "sometimes thank you isn't enough" and he just immediately changes his whole tune from being kind of closed off even after saving X to going straight to "oh, right, I'll treat you to dinner instead, then" like.he's trying really hard to live up to a standard of morality that you teach children, almost naively so, but these were things he would've gotten from his mom, so what if he feels guilty or ashamed for not living up to his understanding of her expectations and he's trying (and kinda failing, more on that in just a moment) to make up for it now? She's not exactly around anymore to adjust those expectations and it seems like he maybe didn't have any reliable adult role model after she passed away (it looks like Mort's trying to work his way into that role now, though.I hope it works).Īs for how he's failing? He's got the vibe of a conman about him, especially with X in the mix, it's almost like they're putting on a well-rehearsed show in Taste of Your Own Medicine and X pretending to be ill just to pop back up good as new after drinking a "miracle cure" has all the markings of a scam, not to mention the medical trials are set up to be the herbier version of the "can you find the coin under the shells" game that, as a classic cliche for "rigged con game" (albiet, it's not rigged per se, and he does TECHNICALLY outline in his ad flier for the thing that it is a trial for untested medication and it carries risks with it), but if he spent the latter part of his childhood and adolescence pulling that sort of thing in order to survive, it'd be a hard habit to break (and one he might not be trying too hard to break anyway.again, not technically lying so he might have a whole justification in place to just.keep doing it, especially if it's in service of "creating new medicine to combat new disease", which evidently became his whole life's purpose at some point, understandably so). ![]() ![]() Medicine was unaffordable, so easy to say him and his mom weren't exactly upper uld be someone preyed on a young, naive, desperate boy by providing "odd jobs" in exchange for pocket change that he might, POSSIBLY, be able to save up for the medicine that will save his mom because that's what adults do, right? Except it wasn't enough, his mom died before his very eyes, and he's in too deep in some sort of criminal underbelly, especially without his primary care provider to be able to provide him other options, so even more desperate and heartbroken, he keeps with that for a while until he figures out that the life path he's gone down wouldn't have been what his mom wanted him to do so he finds a way to escape.but he probably racked up some debts in and amongst all of that and now they're hunting him down to come and collect. Okay, I had two thoughts on this, but the more I went through typing up the second thought, the more I vibe wit that one, so here's some long-ass speculative rant that nobody actually asked for (also surprised this is the first time I've seen anyone bring up "them", I figured more people would've latched onto that one) ![]()
